WEEKS 19 & 20: “Taper” & Final Piece Of Motivation … From Lance!

We have rounded the bend and the training campaign is nearly over, it has been long and arduous, but rewarding, very rewarding.

The last two weeks have been all about winding it back and “tapering” taking it easy. Two Saturdays ago was 16kms, last Saturday was 10kms so you get the idea. Since Saturday I have been resting lots, fighting off the various colds and flu bugs that are around and waiting to Sunday …. I AM REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO IT …

Sunday is the culmination of three and half year journey, from a man who was carrying a bit too much weight (120kgs!) What started out as a weight loss idea became more and has rewarded me so much.

There where many triggers that started me on my journey but one that really got me thinking was reading Lance Armstriong’s first autobiography  ”It’s Not About The Bike”. So it is timely that just before I am an to achieve a major goal of mine, Lance announced his return to professional cycling in 2009. Lance has his doubters and I admit I often wonder. But like another hero of mine Bruce McCaveney ‘you cant help but be inspired” by athletes such as Lance. There are rumours he may race the Tour Down Under in January, if he does I will do all I can to see him …

More details will be known on September 24th ….

On Sunday I will be running for all of you that have donated to such a great Australian cause  CURE CANCER AUSTRALIA

BECAUSE LIKE LANCE, I CANTOO!!! the Sydney Marathon!
